Photo's of Handling with Donja
|
On Sunday the 7th of October 2004 we started handling sheep and Donja just could not wait.
She ran on full speed in a straight line to the sheep but the sheep ran all sides.
We sent Kelpie, an experienced border, to bring the herd together, and afterwards Donja tried it again.
This time we had slow her down and it went much better.
She herd the sheep nicely and reacted well to the commands. It just went wrong when one of the sheep ran away.
Donja lost it and it was a mess, so Kelpie fixed the situation again.
Afterwards it went perfectly only the sheep were tired and that was a pity for Donja,
because she wanted to work. We had a nice day and we are proud of our girl.

Since November I am training with Donja in sheepdog handling at "Lowland's Blacksmith Border Collie's"
with John Jansen as trainer. She is doing her very best and it's going very well. Se performs nicely on
the "12 o'clock position". Now, I still must learn a lot like; watching the movement of the sheep,
understanding them and
conroling my dog, and that's very difficult.
Anyway, we will train once a week so I learn to get a hold on it.
Donja and I find it marvellous working with sheep and I realy want to make it my dayjob. My dream is to
have a little cottage on the green fields with a minor 200 sheep.

I started training with Swift, he also is very fanatic and running around the sheep so they will stay with me. I did 7 sessions of
10 minutes for now and it's going very well.
